Badgley Mischka Bridal Fall 2015

Calgary is freezing cold today. I think it is something like minus 34 degrees Celsius. I say I think because I am writing this blog in bed under a thick blanket. I have no intentions of going outside to verify the temperature. If you are a bride planning a winter wedding, kudos to you. You are much braver than I am. If you are still looking for a wedding gown for your winter wedding, check out the Fall 2015 collection of Badgley Mischka

When I initially saw this collection, it immediately reminded me of a winter wedding or a snow princess. What do you think? If you are a winter bride, what made you decide on a winter wedding? I would love to know! Although I sound a little bit like a wimp in this post, I am all for weddings during anytime of the year!

Fabulous Wedding Ceremonies

Growing up with my childhood friend, Hilda, everyone thought we were so similar that we were sisters. However, Hilda was always about simplicity and I was always about more is more. Of course, I never did grew out of this.I still think more is more especially if you want to make a statement at your wedding. Below are some wedding ceremonies decorated to the MAX! Totally my style.

Wedding DIY Dos

After sharing with readers our top DIY Don'ts and getting some defensive messages from some of our brides, we bring you our top DIY Dos.

1) Wedding Stationary (Invitations, Programs, and Save-the-Dates)
You will be amazed by how much the cost of paper can add up. Add the cost of envelops and postage, you will be rethinking the possibility of sending out wedding ecards. (Resist and don't do it.) Being creative and putting together your own invitations is something you can easily do on your own months in advance to your wedding and over a long weekend (if you are really slow.) There are also tons of invitation DIY kits you can buy and put together. Word of caution, try to stick with conventional sized invitations and envelops. If not, you will be paying additional costs for postage.

2) Your Makeup
If you do your own makeup, feel you do a good job with it, and get complements on it, then why not just do your own makeup? Kate Middleton did it for her own Royal Wedding. Additional plus is you'll be in the privacy of your home or hotel room, won't have to book an appointment (or worry about being on time), and can chill with your girls in the morning over some drinks! Just a friendly tip: if you plan on doing your makeup differently for your wedding, do a trial run and have a friend take a few pictures. Look at the pictures and see if you like your wedding look.

3) Ceremony Decor
For non-religious ceremonies, they usually last 30 minutes to an hour tops. This means, your guests will be enjoying the ceremony decor for a very short amount of time. This is an area you can save a bit of money by doing the decor yourself. By this I mean, designing the decor and getting someone else to set it up for you. If your venue is stunning already, opt for simple decor that you can reuse at your wedding reception. (Another cost saving option!)

4) Wedding Favors
This is another DIY you can work on months in advance to your wedding. If you are giving away edible favors, maybe don't do it too far in advance.

5) Personal Touches
Definitely add your personal touches to your wedding. This is a huge DO in my mind. Personal touches are what makes a wedding truly yours. These are the items that your guests will remember.

What's New at Wishahmon - November 2014

Ohhh...where to start. This has been another exciting month at Wishahmon.

From Brides to Babies
Two of our consultants, Cikiena and Ivy had their second babies one day apart! In 18 years, we will have our proteges trained. Congratulions Cikiena and Ivy!! We are so happy for you both!

Welcome Ruby and Rhoda
Because we can't really wait 18 years for Cikiena and Ivy's babies to grow up quickly. (Not that we want to rush it anyways.) We are welcoming Ruby and Rhoda to our team.

If you are a stressed out bride, Ruby can calm you down with some stories of her own. She had to find a new wedding venue in three weeks time when the Calgary Zoo was hit hard from the flood of June 2013. On the day of her wedding at the new venue, it poured rain the entire day...with no breaks...at all. Seriously, nothing you can say will frazzle her.

Rhoda is a bride to be as well. Her wedding is in July of 2015. If you want to talk about your wedding and exchange DIY ideas during wedding gown changes, Rhoda is the one. She will likely give you suggestions on what she has seen on websites and share her pinterest wedding board with you.

Asian Inspired Wedding - Valley Ridge Golf Course

I met Melissa when she came to us looking for a wedding gown. Although she found her dream gown elsewhere, she reconnected with us to help her design and decorate her wedding at the Valley Ridge Golf Club. Melissa wanted an Asian themed wedding and had lots of DIY ideas in mind. I held my breath a little bit when she told me the long list of DIY items she was going to do ALL BY HERSELF. I asked her if she will be delegating some of the items to her wedding party or holding a DIY "party." She said: "Nope, all by myself." Right before the wedding, I checked in with her and sure enough, she had completed all things she set out to do. As you go through the pictures, you will see a lot of personal touches made by her.

The ceremony and reception was held in the same room with a couple of hours apart to transform from one to the other. Purple and gold paper lanterns in various shades and sizes were hung up in the room to further the Asian theme. The focal point was a backdrop filled with purple ombre paper cranes. A total of 300 cranes were made for this backdrop. We utilized it for the ceremony when Melissa and Chris said their vows and the reception for their head table.

Check out the stunning pictures of their wedding, taken by Yueko Image.
